Liz Smith psychotherapist

I  have been a psychotherapist for over  20  years. I graduated from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration with an M.A. degree in 1979. I also graduated with a BA degree from the University of Michigan in Sociology  with Distinction in 1976.

I  have worked in child welfare,  diverse mental health settings, hospitals inpatient and outpatient, foster care ,  in home health and  many other places as a clinical therapist.. I have been in private practice since 1998. I  am a clinical social worker with  licenses in the states of Illinois, Arizona, Michigan and California.

I  routinely see  clients with insurance and  EAP benefits for individual, couples and family therapy . I also see  clients   on private pay basis  or those with out of network benefits. Please ask me if you have any questions determining  how we can bill for any sessions or consultations.

If you are a couple seeking marital therapy to avoid a divorce,  or  have experienced a divorce,  you can call for an individual  or post divorce treatment. I also offer family therapy,
if you are on the journey to building your relationship, I can give you interpersonal   treatment and  assistance to help you learn  better communication skills.
Schedule an appointment with Elizabeth Smith, Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
I have   an office in Scottsdale, AZ. with flexible hours; just ask and we can find a convenient time to meet. Calls are promptly responded to. Appointments made within a week usually.
In October 2009, I recorded a visual CD  entitled " Healing Journey" with music and sounds of  nature and water  accompanying three meditations with my voice. Please ask me if you are interested in hearing it for relaxation and to help with stress.

In 2004 and 2005 I participated in Anxiety and Depression  Free Screening Day for a local Illinois  community as part of a national effort sponsored by Freedom from Fear Organization  based in New York. Press
releases were printed in the Northwest Herald and Chicago Tribune community sections.

My mission is to incorporate creative efforts  in order to successfully help clients  basing my success on working extensively with  clients over the years in different settings.
I am trained as a clinical social worker with a background in psychoanalytic psychotherapy but am also eclectic-  which means I use many different treatment theories, models, and methods in which to draw upon to treat clients. I keep up to date by continuously attending continuing education seminars and classes to maintain the state license requirements .
While all efforts are made to be successful  in helping clients problem- solve and resolve issues, and many clients do feel relief of symptoms and feel more positive given tools to help cope best with situations or relationships or conflicts of self and life, as said, there are no guarantees.
Benefits of treatment can be better communication with those in work or school environments, or with family and/or self .Growth, understanding and insight are other benefits. I try to help people help themselves and I believe given the right tools and support  many will.
